The Pharmacy Technician operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and scope of practice and standards of practice for Pharmacy Technicians as outlined by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols.

Processes medication orders that are clinically reviewed for therapeutic appropriateness and approved by a Pharmacist. Receives verbal and non-verbal prescriptions from practitioners and ensures that prescriptions are complete and authentic. Prepares, processes and compounds prescriptions. Ensures the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions prepared by self or others by verifying order entries and/or performing the final check of dispensed prescriptions. Processes prescriptions for temporary inpatient leaves of absence. Transfers prescriptions to and receives prescriptions from other pharmacies. Enters and ensures the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the Pharmacy information system. Maintains stock levels and performs clerical duties as assigned

What you'll do

- Receive customer prescriptions, gather all necessary information, ensure completeness of information

- Maintain patient & drug information files
- Check pharmaceutical products prepared by another regulated pharmacy technician or by unregulated pharmacy personnel
- Confirm accuracy and completeness of pharmaceutical products prepared for release
- Preparation of prescription labels, affixing prescription and auxiliary labels to prescription container - Reconciling accounts and collecting outstanding monies from patients where necessary
- Retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing & reconstitution of medications
- Price prescriptions, prepare receipts, invoices, letters, memos, & general filing
- Stock medications and related supplies, rotate & monitor stock
- Maintaining perpetual inventory system in Kroll - Maintain customer privacy & confidentiality

What you’ll need:

- Registered pharmacy technician certification and maintained registration with appropriate pharmacy association
- High level of professionalism
- Knowledge of professional discipline, technical specialties, related process
- Ability to implement practical procedures of systems which are moderately complex
- Leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle cash accurately
- Experience with Kroll an asset
- Respect for the confidential and individual rights of our customers
- Ability to effectively communicate one on one and over the telephone with coworkers, supervisors, suppliers, physicians and customers

Job description:

• Maintain inventories of sufficient supplies to meet production demands.

• Compound intravenous solutions for antibiotics and chemotherapy orders as per procedures.

• Prepare the various cleaning and stock solutions following compounding and measuring processes as outlined in procedures.

• Pick, inspect and verify all production components against production documents.

• Maintain strict adherence to line clearance principles through all stages of production.

• Perform validation, calibration, and microbiological monitoring and checking as required by standards.

• Ensure completion of all required Quality Assurance entries on production documentation.

• Complete in-process and final inspections of product as required by procedures.

• Assist in the cleaning of equipment, totes, and work surfaces and maintain facility     compliance with Calea standards.

• Maintain and participate in inventory counts and picking for narcotic medication

• Enters and prints production for all current Home IV, Palliative, and TPN orders. Ensures 100% accurate collation of production documents according to procedures.

• Schedules and plots production for all I.V. medications.

• Responsible for programming CADD pumps.

• Handling of biohazard waste and cytotoxic materials.

Qualifications:

• R.Ph.T. designation with the BC College of Pharmacy

• Minimum two or more years of experience in a community hospital and/or pharmacy

• Excellent time-management, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints

• Flexible and adaptable to meet the requirements of our evolving business
